Philosphy of ministry :
I believe in the job description of a pastor/teacher is contained in the name of the gift, to pastor and to teach. Pastoral ministry has to do with taking care of sheep. This begins with feeding the sheep; it also involves leading them, caring for them and protecting them. Teaching is involved in all of these areas, but so are such things as setting a godly example, spending time with them and being aware of their needs.
Teaching involves setting good balanced spiritual meals before the sheep. The food to be served is the word of God. The goal of the ministry of teaching is that those taught would exhibit love out of a pure conscience and an un-pretended faith, that they would be equipped to do the work of the ministry, and that ultimately every man or woman would be presented complete in Christ.

Testimony:
I was raised in a Christian home (my father was a Baptist pastor and evangelist), so I cannot remember a time when I did not know the gospel. My first clear memory is of “going forward” during one of my father’s altar calls when I was just four years old. But while I believe God began a work in my heart at that time, I do not believe I was truly believed unto salvation until I was 20 years old. This happened on March 23, 1973, during the second semester of my junior year at Western Bible College. It was through the study of the Book of Hebrews the previous semester that the doubts I had struggled with throughout my entire life finally crystallized. Gradually I came to the conclusion that I was not truly saved and received Christ as my Savior. As you can imagine, my conversions was a great shock to my parents, the student body at Western and my fiancée (now my wife), Pam.

Call To Ministry :
Like the Wesley brothers and George Whitefield, I believe my call to the ministry came before my conversion. In fact, I cannot think of a time when I did not known that God wanted me to be in ministry. Though I do not think I was truly a believer until I was 20 I was always a “God seeker.” This is why my conversion in college stunned everyone; no one would have ever suspected that I was not a Christian.
Even before I began kindergarten I used to preach to the other children in the neighborhood. Throughout grade school, junior and senior high I was a bold witness (much bolder than I sometimes am today). When I was twelve years old I had my first ministry experience when I spent the summer working at the Union Rescue Mission in Wichita, Kansas. It was there that I began preaching. I attended Bible College to prepare for the ministry that I believed, and still believe, God had called me to. After my conversion I continued my training with a fresh assurance that I was born to serve the Lord, and have served Him as a pastor for the last 33 years.
